WICHTIG

    1 Tomb Raider 1 Engine

    TR1:

    • Texinfo: 2048 (8192 with Tomb1Main)
    • Texture pages: 16 (64 with Tomb1Main)
    • Boxes limit: 2048 and Overlaps limit: 16384 (can be reduced by "no pathfinding" option or by selecting some sectors as "non-walkable floor sector")
    • Moveable limit 255 (10240 with Tomb1Main, but it's not recommended to go above the 255 number)
    • No colorful lighting
    • Hardcoded animation sequence such as Lara picking up the scion from pedestal which require:
    • Tomb Editor: To set up flyby camera sequence (no flyby = level will crash)
    • Dxtre3d: Use original level as a wad/source (if using other level as wad/source = level will crash)
    • One sound effect from Midas' Palace requires a flipmap trigger to work (this one where you were pulling the pushable so the phillar collapsed)
    • Flipmaps are changing across all rooms, so you have to use flipoff/flipon trick that I have explained some messages above (or see pinned messages)
    • If you are Dxtre3d user then triggers are named differently:
    • Flipmap = Alternate_ON
    • Flipoff = Alternate_OFF
    • Flipon = Alternate_Flag
    • No triangular geometry

    It's recommended to use Tomb1Main

    2 Tomb Raider 2 Engine

    TR2:

    • Texinfo: 2048 (8192 with TR2Main)
    • Texture pages: 32 (128 with TR2Main)
    • Boxes limit: 2048 and Overlaps limit: 16384
    • Moveable limit: 255
    • Most limitations are the same as in TR1 (except the sound effect one)
    • Even without passing moveable limit be aware of savegame buffer error, make sure to deactivate objects after leaving room and so on, in case just reduce the number of moveables
    • No triangular geometry

    It's recommended to use TR2Main

Boxes and overlaps limit is technically higher in TR1 and TR2 than written above but it might be an unstable limit as sometimes pathfinding either go broken or not, so it's better to not reach those given numbers ~Credits to Lore and Rapora9 :)

    3 Tomb Raider 3 Engine

    TR3:

    • Texinfo: 4096 (it's hard to pass this limit, so don't worry)
    • Texture pages: 32
    • Boxes limit: 2048 and Overlaps limit: 16384
    • Moveable limit: 255
    • Weather is hardcoded on each level slot, so if you want snow in your level you have to set up script to run it from correct level slot
    • Some traps, unique things from original levels can work as well on each level slot
    • Render can go broken if you build too big areas or use a lot of static objects (you can avoid it by removing some static objects or reducing size of the room. Removing horizion can be the best solution as it consumes a lot of polygons)

    Tomb3Main is currently in progress

    4 Tomb Raider 4 / TRNG Engine

    TR4/TRNG:

    • moveables limit in TR4 vanilla is 255, also number of vertices per mesh
    • texinfos limit is around 32000 (more or less)
    • you can theoretically go up to 1024 rooms but 255 is the vertical portal limit however a setting in the level editor solves this so you can go slightly above 255 but not much
    • 1024 moveables (after 255 you will get a warning error and flame from the torch will disappear but it's not a big issue) but you should still not go anywhere near 1024 because you will get problems.
    • 20 dynamic lights in each room
    • max 16384 overlaps and 2040 boxes (can be reduced with "no pathfinding" checked in some rooms or by splitting level if not possible)
    • 2400 vertices in each room (unstable limit so you can go as high as 5000 vertices in each room but be careful since it's danger zone and it will usually crash at 6000+ vertices. 8192 with meta2tr)

Credits to Kubsy and Lore for those ones xoxo

Vanlla TR4 is very limited so it's better to use TRNG (especially with sexy FLEP) :)

    5 Tomb Raider 5 Engine

    TR5:

    • There's no real texinfo and texture pages limit as far as I know but better safe than sorry and do not overuse it :)
    • Moveable limit: 255
    • Boxes limit: 2048 and Overlaps limit: 16384

TR5 Engine is heavily hardcoded in general so be aware of using it. It's possible to make level but you may encounter random crash. In fact Tomb5Main improve a lot of things so it's recommended to use it if you ever want to build on this engine
